Why You Can't Miss the 2026 LGW People & Safety Conference

If you work in Human Resources, Workplace Health and Safety or People & Culture in local government, the 2026 LGW People & Safety Conference was designed for you.

Earlier this year, we asked councils what mattered most, what challenges they were navigating and where they needed greater support and practical insights.

The 2026 agenda has been shaped directly by feedback from councils across Queensland, ensuring the conversations we have at the conference are grounded in the real challenges local government professionals are facing right now.

That’s the value of a mutual scheme. LGW Workcare is owned by member councils, meaning the program has been built around the priorities, challenges and opportunities councils told us they want to explore.

Join us 16–18 June 2026 at the Royal International Convention Centre, Brisbane. This conference is open to all councils — you don't need to be an LGW member to attend.

Meet Your Keynote Speaker: Dr Edwin Trevor-Roberts

Dr Edwin Trevor-Roberts has spent two decades exploring how people find meaning through their work — and right now, that question has never mattered more in local government.

As CEO of national career and leadership development firm Trevor-Roberts and Adjunct Professor at Griffith University's Centre for Work, Organisation, and Wellbeing, Edwin sits at the intersection of research and real-world practice. His opening keynote, Positive Uncertainty: How to Lead Through the Unknown, will give you a practical framework for leading your people confidently through change — even when the road ahead isn't clear.

Get Practical on Psychosocial Risk

One of the topics members asked for most and one of the most pressing challenges in local government right now is psychosocial risk. On Day 2, registered psychologist Venita Hudson from Marsh leads a 90-minute hands-on workshop built specifically for people and safety professionals in local government.

Venita has designed programs for some of the most complex psychosocial environments in Australia — from royal commissions to elite police units to C-suite compliance workshops. She knows what practical looks like.

You'll walk away with:

✔️ Confidence to identify and manage psychosocial hazards in your workplace
✔️ Practical tools for risk assessment and compliance mapping
✔️ Strategies you can apply at your council straight away

What Else You'll Learn

The 2026 program covers the issues your peers are wrestling with across Queensland including occupational violence, workplace change and wellbeing, OHS audit best practice, common law claim management, hazardous chemicals and how AI is beginning to reshape local government operations.

Much of it is delivered by councils, for councils with case studies and panel discussions from Gold Coast, Logan, Ipswich, Central Highlands, Burdekin, Moreton Bay and more. These aren't polished corporate presentations. They're honest conversations from people who understand your environment, your constraints and your communities.

Open to All Councils

This conference is open to all councils — you don't need to be an LGW member to attend. If you work in local government and care about people and safety, you're welcome here.
