If you work in Human Resources, Workplace Health and Safety or People & Culture in local government, the 2025 LGW People and Safety Events are designed for you — and you won’t want to miss what’s planned.

Held in Cairns (29–30 July) and Redcliffe (4–5 August), these events will tackle the real-world challenges you face every day: managing risk without the authority to drive change, navigating complex behaviours and trying to influence up, down and across the organisation. You'll walk away with practical tools that will help you navigate culture, compliance and care.

Meet your Keynote Speaker: Michelle McFadyen

Michelle McFayden V2.jpg

Michelle McFadyen is a leadership and organisational wellbeing expert with over 25 years’ experience in local government, including as both CEO and Deputy CEO. She’s coached and mentored thousands of professionals and delivered strengths-based development programs across councils, government agencies and social impact organisations.

She understands the pressure of working in the “messy middle” — where HR, WHS, and People & Culture leaders are expected to manage complex behaviours and risks, often without the authority to drive change from the top.

Her workshop: Leading from the middle

Michelle’s workshop tackles the most persistent challenges faced by people and safety professionals in local government — unresolved psychosocial risks, poor behaviour that goes unchecked, performance conversations that don’t happen and a lack of influence where it’s needed most.

You’ll walk away with:

✔️ Proven conversation scripts and frameworks
✔️ Strategies to identify and manage risk early
✔️ Tools for influencing upwards, sideways and within your team
✔️ Confidence to tackle tough conversations with clarity and purpose
